What is Mathesis Universalis?

All things have at least one thing or idea in common!

We must clear up one issue right away: Knowledge is NOT power; rather, how it is used. In fact how knowledge is used is even more important than the knowledge itself! Knowledge is stored in our questions and not in our answers. With these simple, yet vital distinctions in mind…

Have you noticed that how we see the world influences what we see when we look at that world? Isn’t it also true that what we see when we look at the world influences how we see it?

This change of perspective pops up everywhere and permeates all of our universe. How do I know this? From physics: I don’t need the money necessary to build a Large Hadron Collider to notice what is obviously true. I need only look for fundamental principles instead of trying to find ever more fundamental particles!

Let’s take the saying: You can’t see the forest for all of the trees? Essentially it is saying that the closer you look at something, the less you see of that which is around it. Conversely: the farther you are away from something you’re looking at, the more you see around it and the less you see of its detail.

This is actually a universal constant. It is valid everywhere in the universe and is just as fundamental as many of the physical constants we know of. It is a member of a virtual infinity of constants, variations, and identities evolving around and within everything in our experience. Even you yourself are a ‘constant’ composed of a multitude of fundamental and derived constants.

Universal constants build the holarchical ‘vocabulary’ we can use to describe the universe in ways that make massive amounts of data simple to visualize and understand. If you want to understand something so fundamental as knowledge, then what better way can you have to examine it than in terms of how the universe itself is structured?

These constants function like the powerful levers that Archimedes referred to long ago; they reveal the emergent properties of data which makes the data meaningful to us as ‘knowledge’. This is made possible by defining informally and practically what knowledge is:

The ability to take as many perspectives on a body of information as possible without losing your own sense of perspective.

And now for a precise definition of knowledge:

 >> Knowledge , the meaning of meaning, is what awareness does. <<

It is the recognition and application of this basic insight which makes knowledge portability possible!
